Massage Therapists Association of Alberta

The Massage Therapists Association of Alberta is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the advancement and maintenance of the profession of massage therapy. Members of the association have access to information and tools that help them remain up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field. These tools include the Directory of Registered Massage Therapists in Alberta, personal information, renewal documentation, and certification submissions. These resources are also available to members in the form of classified job postings.

The Massage Therapists Association of Alberta is one of the oldest and largest organizations in Canada. It focuses on the practice of massage therapy in Alberta and has been lobbying government officials for over a decade for regulation. The organization is also active in the Transitional Steering Committee and is supporting higher standards of professional conduct. The Association of Albertan Massage Therapists (MTAA) represents over 5,000 members in the province.

The college is currently preparing documents for the new regulations. The COVID-19 restrictions, which came into effect in December 2020, were the result of an effort by three Alberta associations to share protocols and establish a more robust safety protocol. Using this collaborative working model, the TC-CMTA was able to develop a superior protocol. The governing body of this association is the Massage Therapists Association of Alberta.

The Massage Therapists Association of Alberta is fighting for a regulatory framework for the profession in Alberta. The TC-CMTA is the body that oversees the profession of massage therapy in Alberta. The TC-CMTA works with the Provincial Health Minister to develop the new rules. The governing body is a non-profit organization, so there are no regulations for this profession.

The Massage Therapists Association of Alberta was established in 1953.
