My joy today is unbridled! The multiple hardships I have faced since ringing in the new year (just 23 days ago) are now a thing of the past.
What have I endured; first, a hacker turned my inspirational website into a hard core porn site. Yes this site! I pray you didn’t see it. Next came a cold which lead to the flu and finally, when I recovered, a lovely cross country ski at dusk, led to me being sprayed by a disgruntled skunk! Instead of crying, I burst out laughing. I laughed so hard I nearly fell down. I laughed even harder when I passed an older man on my way home who said “do you smell that terrible skunk smell?”
“Yes sir, it’s my latest perfume; oudh de skunk”
Have you, like me, ever thought, “I can’t take any more of this!”
What I have learned is that as challenging as trials can be, they often produce great growth. The key to getting through is to focus on thankfulness rather than dwelling on the hardship.
Thankfulness releases faith and faith leads to breakthrough.
Psalm 100:4; is a call to do just that:
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.”
We are called to thanksgiving in our trials for our own good. You simply can’t harbor anger, discouragement and a multitude of other negative emotions when you are filled with thankfulness. Giving thanks in all circumstances is one of the most powerful weapons of spiritual warfare that we have the power to release. It is our choice whether we dwell on the hardships or whether we choose to give thanks and trust that God will use it all for good.
When I look back, I remain awed by it all. In every single hardship, seeds of growth were planted and gifts were discovered. I’m not saying I always enjoyed the difficulties, but I am saying that I wouldn’t change a thing. Gods plan is so much better than anything I could create. I am learning to surrender, to trust and to enjoy the ride wherever God leads.
Can you do the same?
Can you look back at your life and see the blessings in the trials? Can you see the change?
Your thankfulness causes the universe to come to your rescue. It takes discipline, but it works. The enemy cringes when you release thankfulness. And God sings.
We are works of art, continually being shined and molded into even more magnificent masterpieces.
